Well, look no further!

The Gold Coast Medical Association (GCMA) and the Vanuatu Medical and Dental Association (VMDA) bring you our joint medical conference at the Warwick Le Lagon Resort, Port Vila from Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 September 2017.

Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu – a Pacific island nation with a rich and dramatic history dating back over 3,000 years. The indigenous NiVan traditions have absorbed British and French influences to produce a vibrant Melanesian culture and a sovereign country since independence in 1980.

The conference program starts Thursday evening 21 September with a warrior led traditional opening ceremony and welcome. The scientific program starts Friday with a ‘top-flight’ plenary session exploring the future health needs of Vanuatu. Then follows parallel sessions covering clinical topics of interest to clinicians of all backgrounds (see program details at the conference website – see below). Our prestigious faculty includes Australian and NiVan speakers. A special Practice Manager session is included on Friday. The conference dinner on Friday evening includes entertainment of traditional music and dance, a ‘fire show’ and a cameo performance of the NiVan doctor’s band – The Stethoscopes! The Saturday morning program covers three skills-based workshops and visits to the Port Vila Hospital and clinics. The Institute of Australasian Psychiatrists has its AGM and psychiatric symposium meeting on Saturday morning.

The conference venue is the 5-star Warwick Le Lagon Resort – the premier holiday and conference location in Vanuatu. We have negotiated exceptionally low room rates with the resort for our meeting. Book your accommodation now on our conference website (see below) to secure these low rates.

Our meeting is within the Australian September school holidays. So combine this conference with a holiday for your family in Vanuatu. Tourist highlights on Efate Island Vanuatu include the Vanuatu Museum in Port Vila, swim at the Blue Lagoon, snorkel among the coral fish at Hideaway Island, enjoy a cultural evening at the Secret Garden, walk through and zip line above the Mele Cascades waterfall complex, swim with the turtles on the Congoola Cruise and visit Roi Mata Cave from Havana Harbor, join the Lelepa Island tour, golf at the Port Vila Country Club, and enjoy the limitless pristine white sandy beaches that ring the island. Further afield you can visit Espiritu Santos to see the Millennium Cave and scuba dive among the wrecks of WWII warships, or travel to Tanna Island to view the world’s most accessible volcano – Mount Yasur. Visit Pentecost Island to see the original home of bungee jumping!

We invite you to attend this meeting. You will meet with exceptional NiVan medical colleagues and other colleagues from Australia, New Zealand and countries around the Pacific. This meeting is an opportunity to contribute to the professional development of our Pacific Island medical community.

We look forward to meeting you in Port Vila in September!
