I conducted a recent survey of members of Royal Australasian College of Physicians concerning Constitutional change. The results were informative. If elected as President-elect and Board Director of the RACP I would advocate for constitutional changes endorsed by college members in this survey.
The survey showed widespread dissatisfaction (70%) with information provided from the college about constitutional change. Most members (67%) had little confidence that previously proposed amendments would improve governance. Members were evenly split on whether EGMs should be able to alter college policies in addition to removing board directors and changing the constitution. A substantial majority (83%) of members thought 250 members should be required to call an EGM. A small majority (57%) did not approve of the role of President and Chair of the Board being separated. And a large majority (84%) did not want elected college positions to be limited to only those endorsed by a committee of non-elected fellows (a nominations committee).
