Bondi Beach Shooting Tragedy

With regard to the horrific shootings at Bondi Beach, I offer my sympathy and condolences to all directly affected and to our Jewish community, and my remarks below.

Australia has been jolted by the shocking news of the death and injury of many people in a senseless mass shooting aimed at the Jewish community Sunday evening at Bondi Beach.

As details continue to emerge, we are horrified by the level of violence and the enormous loss of life and serious injuries sustained by the innocent victims of this outrage. We are sure most Australians will be feeling the same way.

This is a moment that will evoke grief, anger and deep distress for many. As a medical community, we are strongest when we respond with calm, compassion and unity, supporting one another and those directly affected. As practical steps we encourage our members to reach out and offer support and love to members of our Jewish community.

We support our Jewish brothers and sisters at this intensely sad time. We stand against all forms of antisemitism. We demand all Australian governments eradicate antisemitism in all corners of our nation as a matter of urgency. We deplore all who espouse hatred and violence, and we cherish those who provide security, care and love for others

Over the coming days and weeks, we must stand together in the face of this national tragedy.
